First of all, good job for wanting to go green and making so much effort on that!!
Second of all, you need to first know where you are going to purchase these strips of environmental Savior!! Some places that will provide them for you to purchase, are:
———-Unwise ———- http://www.sunwize.com/
———-Evergreen ——– http://www.evergreen.ca/
The prices will vary but that is your own issue.
Third of all, how to install, that is not my area of expertise, but go to this website to find out how!!

Have a nice eco-friendly day!!!!!

You will have to purchase the panels .Then figure how many you will need.
They usually are 12 volt panels and are made in different wattages Say 100 watts
100 divided by 12 =approx 8amps
Now to get 120 volts, you need to add 9 more panels (10 X12) in series , but you still only have 8 amps(not much) so you would have to get 10 more and hook them in parallel to the others to get 16 amps( still not much) Now you need an inverter because the panels put out DC voltage and you want AC. The inverter has to be capable of the amperage . So you can see ,it will get expensive. I think the Government is giving rebates now but you might have to deal with a licensed contractor.Did this help??

You can build a solar panel like the solar panels used in solar hot water heaters. Get a black bottle or a plastic bottle and wrap it with black book covering. Fill it with water and then put it in the sun. After about 30 mins, the water will be very hot!
If you then pour the water into your electric kettle, you will save energy because the water has been pre-heated.

Solar panels can be made easily. Even you can learn by using step-by-step instructions. Please take a look at this link : http://review4homemadeenergy.blogspot.com/
You also can learn how to make electricity from wind energy.

I actually followed the advise I got from http://www.xs4all.nl/~hante/hoofdproject.html
He is great! Simple explanations and well written. He even recommended a seller who I am still buying from. http://stores.ebay.com/ecoiq
I’m on my eighth panel now (advertised 3×6 ~1.8w Evergreens). I have a boat with an electric motor and when I dock it, I just hook it up to my 65wp panel and never worry that it runs out. Another one charges the pump in the filtration system of my artificial pond.
The point is that do it yourself is great if you’re that kind of person that likes to put things together, but be careful when shopping online (especially eBay). Even if the cells are the same, how the seller organizes them in their store makes all the difference. Choose seller with good rating as I learned as I learned on my mistakes the hard, pricey ways. Stay away from MLSollar (selling trash) and rebeccayi0904 (quality not as advertised.)

You can find instructions for building your own solar panels over the net. Instructables.com has an 8 step process for building solar panels. Cheap solar panels can be built with broken solar cells, the website shows you how to do that too. They have some links there where you can purchase the components. The instructions are free and may be suitable for someone with some electrical and constructive skills.
