This shows how to make and test a solar cell using a sheet of copper. These solar cells are basically sheets of copper with a layer of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) on them. The cuprous oxide is a semiconductor. You won't get much electricity from it but it's fun to make!

If your solar panels are thermal and not photovoltaic then you can reverse the flow and use the heat from the storage tank and melt the snow off of the units.
Alternatively you can invest in a heliostat (a solar following mirror) that will increase the efficiency of the solar panel ...

My car battery goes dead if I don't start it every 2-3 days. I want to go away for 2 weeks or so.. would I be able to leave a solar battery charger hooked up to my auto for that amount of time?
I haven't bought one yet just collecting ...

I've looked at prices for individual solar panels, and they are pretty affordable. But that's just the panel and I don't know what else as for as labor and equipment it costs to install and hook up so that the panel actually powers other things like water heater or whatever. ...
